Sometimes the rivalry between two studios goes a little too far, as has been seen today between 20th Century Fox and Disney. Both corporations announced over the weekend that they plan to adapt versions of Jules Verne's classic science fiction novel, 20000 Leagues Under The Sea, and neither plans to back down. Disney, who adapted the novel in 1954, has hired director David Fincer (Fight Club) to direct and Scott Z. Burns (Bourne Ultimatum) to write. Their adaptation has been described as having a Star Wars-like vibe to it. What does that mean? I don't know. In case you rather your Jules Verne not to be related to talking mice, you also have 20th Century Fox's adaptation of the film, which is to be produced by Ridley and Tony Scott (Alien), and co-written by Travis Beacham. Is there really a market for either of these films? We will have to wait and see. Either way, things are sure to get very confusing.
