Despite a mixed fan reaction and massive budget cuts, it appears that the sequel to the 2007 action hit Ghost Rider has begun shooting, and according to producers Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor it "kicked epic ass."

The two excited producers also blogged about the shooting for the process on Twitter and mentioned that the same Hellcycle from the previous movie would not appear. Also, they left this little tidbit: "Idris Elba, helicopters, motorcycles, Russian arm[y] and the Transfagarasanul... HOLY S#!T"

The Transfagarasnul is a massive Russian roadway, which will apparently involve a massive chase scene involving the film's protagonist.

Although apparently in development hell (haha get it?) for years, it appears that the sequel to 2007's Ghost Rider is in fact moving foward.

Star Nicolas Cage confirmed on "The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson" that he will in fact be starring in the film tentatively titled Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, the final deal having been signed yesterday.

Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor (Gamer, Crank) will be directing.

On Tuesday, Heat Vision reported that the long reported sequel to the 2007 hit film Ghost Rider will indeed begin production, with its star Nicolas Cage. The production hit problems earlier this year when Cage was locked into other commitments and would not sign onto the film.

The new film Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance will reportedly be directed and written by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, the crew behind the Crank films. Columbia pictures must begin production on the film soon, or risk losing the rights, which expire later this year. No release date has been listed so far.

Although never hailed as one of Marvel's better films, Ghost Rider was a commercial success when it was released in 2007, and has even gained a small cult following among the comic book fanbase. Talks of sequel have been thrown about since the film's release, but have not gone far until now.

Columbia studios loses their control over the Ghost Rider property this November, if a sequel has not begun production. This creates a problem seeing as the films star, Nicolas Cage, is currently busy with other projects such as the third film in the National Treasure franchise. Columbia has now apparently accelerated talks to create a sequel, without the first films leading man. However, noone seems to be asking, should a sequel really be made?
