This week was C2E2, the large comics and entertainment expo in Chicago, Illinois. Marvel came out in force to showcase the future of numerous projects including the future of the X-men, Spider-man, and most of all the Avengers.

First off, let me show you guys this rather amazing image which details the rosters for the entire Avengers franchise for the near future. Awesome is the only word that comes to mind. However, I am only able to leave you this link (courtesy of ign.com)

The Avengers themselves will be off to a busy year. The Avengers in the All Ages section of Marvel will be facing off with the Infinity Gauntlet.

However, perhaps the most interesting upcoming Avengers story is the Young Avengers crusade to find the long missing Wanda Maximoff. I can already tell that this won't end well.

Also it appears as if X-men will be jumping on the vampire wagon. Their new roster, which ranges from Blade to Spider-man, will be combating vampires when the new volume of X-men opens this fall. The new X-men series reportedly features a more mission based story structure, and will feature guest stars from numerous Marvel comics. I can sense the necessary Deadpool appearance already. There will also be a relaunching of X-force, and several new Wolverine stories including centric stories on Dakin and a trip through hell.

Also, among the most surprising news is that Steve Rogers will step down form the role of Captain America. Although his new title is yet to be revealed there will be two short series following the character in his transition. First, Steve Rogers: Super Soldier will follow Steve's new title, and Captain America: Patriot will follow Captain America's Cold War adventures. This new version of Steve Rogers will also appeared in the new Secret Avengers series.

Finally, we reach perhaps the most controversial series of the convention. Spider-man: O.M.I.T. (One Moment In Time) is designed to fill in the gaps created by the poorly received One More Day retcon. The series will center around the central point of the changes, Spider-man's marriage. The story arc will reveal numerous aspects of Peter's life that have remained a mystery until now. However, most of all it will be a painful reminder of one of the worst decisions in Marvel history.

~Opening~
The second Anime worth watching this winter season: the anime version of Dance in the Vampire Bund is a tad different from the manga version, but it seems good so far. As for the opening sequence I decided I'd rather not talk about it rather it trigger my H-thoughts/darkside
.

~Story~

The story focuses on Mina Tepes (Vlad Tepes?? hinthint), princess-ruler of all vampires, and her "protector," Akira. Like other vampires, she has been in hiding with her people for many years. Seeking to end centuries of isolation, Mina gains permission to create a special district for vampires, "The Bund", off the coast of Japan by paying off the national debt of the Japanese government. Mina then reveals to the world the existence of vampires and her desire for both races to live together. Tensions, however, run high as fearful humans and extremist vampire factions begin to interfere with Mina's wish for peace with the human world.

~Review~

Off the start this anime is a bit different from many of the other vampire anime out there (cause heaven knows there's a lot). Mina shows the world, rather violently, that vampires are real off the start. The animation is beautiful, yet has a subtle grittiness to it (think Trinity Blood). Of course (considering the fact it's all about vampire's) it's violent and bloody. So far the story is simple to explain and a great concept. One of the most awkward parts of the story, however, is that it is partially a romance anime and the main protagonist is an ancient vampire who looks like an 11-year-old (can you say "excuse for lolicon" 3 times fast?). Also there is a bit of ecchi-ness here and there, but it doesn't take to much time from the story. It's actually pretty good despite all the suggestive images used to advertise it and worth the watch if you like the idea of vampires trying to get along with humans (and then there are the werewolves later . . .).
Overall:
Animation: 20
Story: 20

Characters: 16
Originality: 15
(still a vampire anime)

Overall: 71
(worth watching):okay:

Konban wa! Anna speaking. Firstly, may I express how totally psyched I am to be working on this blog!

Secondly, lady geeks, have I got a book for you to read!

Title: Soulless (Book 1 of The Parasol Protectorate)

Author: Gail Carriger

Summary: Alexia Tarabotti is laboring under a great many social tribulations.
First, she has no soul. Second, she's a spinster whose father is bother Italian and dead. Third, she was rudely attacked by a vampire, breaking all standards of social ettiquette.
Where to go from there? From bad to worse apparently, for Alexia accidentally kills the vampire - and then the appalling Lord Maccon (loud, messy, gorgeous, and werewolf) is sent by Queen Victoria to investigate.
With unexpected vampires appearing and expected vampires disappearing, everyone seems to believe Alexia is responsible. Can she figure out what is actually happening to London's high society? Will her soulless ability to negate supernatural powers prove useful or just plain embarrassing? Finally, who is the real enemy, and do they have treacle tart?

Rating (out of five stars): FIVE STARS

Review: If you loved Twilight, Soulless is your new favorite book. Aside from being much better written than the teen fanfavorite, Soulless has a level of humor that caters to a more...what's the word...mentally awesome group. Set in Victorian London, the story follows the adventures of Miss Alexia Tarabotti, an almost literal 'black sheep' in her family of dumb blondes. Witty and resourceful, Alexia uses her wits and wiles to solve an intrigue that normal people can't even hope to understand. With the help of Lord Conall Maccon, an ancient, cynical, and Scottish werewolf leader, she braves the mysteries of the supernatural aspect of society and finds love along the way.
This book had me laughing, gasping, and reading until all hours of the morning. The novel has some steampunk aspects to it that made little old me a very happy little nerd. Alexia was a very relatable character: self-conscious, emotional, independent. She even has a gay best friend...even though he's a four-hundred-year-old vampire with a penchant for sparkly things and outrageous color combinations. And do not get me started on Lord Maccon. Bow-chicka-wow-wow!
There was some sex in it, but fear not, this is no bodice-ripper, my friends. Even during the steamy bits (which were honestly not that steamy), Carriger maintained her wicked sarcasm and biting humor. Nothing romance novel-y here. Just good writing.

So, to sum it all up, a great beginning to a series and a phenomenal book on its own. Definitely worth your time.

Well, that's all I have to say for now, ladies and gentlemen. Until next time!

Jaa mata!
