Nick's Roundup of Stuff He Missed
Okay. I was offline for a week and in said week we got a ton of news on various things ranging from comics to movies. Here's a quick round up of cool stuff that happened while I was dormant.
1. Juarssic Park Comics by IDW

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Believe or not Jurassic Park was once, in addition to being a novel and movie series, was once a comic series published by IDW.Come this June the series will be revived by the company beginning with the Jurassic Park: Redemption arc.The story follows John Hammond's grandchildren ten years after the original film/novel. The series features art by Frank Millar and Nat Van Dyke, and is coedited by Bob Schreck.

2. Captain America is Chris Evans

------------------------------------------------------------------
It has been a long multimonth journey, but we finally have an actor set to play Captain America in the upcoming film The First Avenger: Captain America. Chris Evans, known for his role as The Human Torch in the Fantastic Four films, is set to play the famous patriot in next summer's film. However, his contract current holds him to reprise the role into nine films, including 2012's Avengers movie.

3. Two New Independence Day Films!?!

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, whether you loved Roland Emmerich's Independence Day or hated it, it looks like we may get two sequels. Thats right, a film thats almost ten years old, now may get two sequels. IESB.net has reported that Will Smith, in addition to Men In Black 3, has signed on for two sequels to the 90's alien film that will be shot back to back. The sequels are expected to begin shooting in 2011.

4. Hobbit Films to Begin Filming Later This Year

---------------------------------------------------------
Andy Serkis, the actor who played Gollum in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, has confirmed at the Japanese Empire Awards that the two Hobbit films will begin shooting in late 2010. This means that the release date may in fact be pushed back from its originally slated 2011 to 2012. However, he does offer some words of encouragement stating that they have the look for the film down, and that Middle Earth will still look like Middle Earth.

Spider-man: Shattered Dimensions Interview/Trailer
Activision's exciting new Spider-game, which quote "does not suck." We'll see Activision, we'll see. It does look very interesting though, I'll keep an eye on this one.
Metroid Other M Gameplay Trailer
Here is the latest trailer for Nintendo's upcoming game in the Metroid series. The gameplay looks exciting and fluid, but I still have my problems with the games graphics. I shall withold complete judgement until I play the game though.

Around the Web- (New Regular Feature?)
Well, I've promised regular features in the past. (Remember my top ten lists, Fringe and clone wars reviews?) Here's one that I would love to keep in existance for a while atleast. Every week I will post three viral videos/ or new memes that caught my eye. Here are my pics for the week.
1. Children's Choir Sings "Still Alive"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now if that didn't make you smile with nerd related happiness, I dont know what will.
2. TV Show Theme Medley
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Recently featured on the Best of Youtube Podcast, this awesome video mainly caught my eye for the awesomeness that happens at 3:55. Its just cool overall though. Though, I'm mad that they included Family guy.
3. Bizarre Giant Shark Video
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now this video is just bizarre. I actually happened upon it a few years ago, but it recently popped back into the random soup of my subconcious. It looks real enough, but its still fracking weird.

The Return of the King: Godzilla is Back!

I am excited. Ecstatic. No I am literally about to fall out of my chair. Godzilla is back from the dead.
First rumored in last summer, Legendary Pictures, the studio behind Watchmen, The Dark Knight, and the upcoming Clash of the Titans, announced that they were in talks with Toho Co. Ltd. to release a reboot of the Godzilla series.
Today Legendary made the official announcement for the film, which is penned for a 2012 release.
"Godzilla is one of the world's most powerful pop culture icons, and we at Legendary are thrilled to be able to create a modern epic based on this long-loved Toho franchise," said Thomas Tull, Chairman and CEO of Legendary. "Our plans are to produce the Godzilla that we, as fans, would want to see. We intend to do justice to those essential elements that have allowed this character to remain as pop-culturally relevant for as long as it has."
Toho Co. Ltd. had this to say: "Godzilla is a signature Japanese character which we have nurtured over the years. It is a great honor to reach an agreement with Legendary Pictures, the parent to many a blockbuster film, and we are delighted in rebooting the character together to realize its much anticipated return by fans from all over the world," comments Hideyuki Takai, President of Toho Co., Ltd. "We are anxious to find out where Godzilla's new stomping will take us."
It was also announced that Dan Lin (Sherlock Holmes) , Roy Lee (The Departed), Brian Rogers , Yoshimitsu Banno (Godzilla vs. Hedorah) , Kenji Okuhira and Doug Davison will produce.

The Halo Trilogy - Which One is King?
I don't want to drag out this post, so I will make it brief.
Okay - so Nick, Gormy, and I have been debating over which Halo is the best out of the three from the trilogy, namely, Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, and Halo 3. I have played all three multiple times, and despite them being one of my least favorite shooter franchises (that's a whole 'nother story), they are fun run-and-gun games that can easily steal a weekend.
My favorite is Halo: Combat Evolved. I played all three in the order of which they were meant to be played (or at least released, who knows if they pulled a George Lucas on us) and my love remains reserved for the first game. Maybe it was the simplicity of the first game: a generic story, generic characters, generic guns; it just all felt good (Gormy, restrain yourself). I don't care if Halo 2 had a more interesting story or less "I've already f---ing been here!" moments than the first. And don't even get me started on the third game. Sure it had skulls and smoother mechanics; in my eyes, however, it just can't top the fun I had with the first.
Halo: Combat Evolved may have been overly simple and repetitive than the sequels, but it has a sort of charm, a nostalgia that brings back memories and feelings that just can't be recreated by its followers. Whether or not it is regarded as such in the rest of the world, I don't care. I think Halo: Combat Evolved is a classic that accomplishes much more than the rest of the trilogy.
And just for your enjoyment, Figure A depicts the worldwide accepted graph of goodness of the Halo Trilogy, shown chronologically by release date.

Dinocroc Vs. Supergator!
And here we go, even more Corman craziness! Now we have two absurd crocodillians eating numerous people and fighting it out. Honestly, when it comes to cheesy creature flicks Roger Corman never ceases to disappoint, and of coures we have SyFy Channel to thank fot the insanity. No release date yet, but I'll be waiting eagerly for the day this atrocity graces my television screen.
Monsters- New Giant Monster/ Alien Film from Vertigo Films

This week was the famous SXSW, a film festival for the fantastic, and unique. While we got new information regarding the Predators film, and Kick Ass (Look for more about those later/in our latest podcast), the biggest news (atleast for me) was regarding the new independent film Monsters. Monsters is described by Vertigo films as: "Six years ago previously, a NASA probe returning to earth with samples of an alien life form, crashed over Central America. Soon after, new life forms began to appear, and half of Mexico was quarantined as an "INFECTED ZONE. Today, the American and Mexican military still struggle to contain "the creatures"... The story begins when a US journalist agrees to escort a shaken American tourist through the infected zone in Mexico to the safety of the US border."

Although the idea brings to mind such films as Cloverfield and District 9, reviews for Monsters have been overwhelmingly positive. The film was also recently picked up by Magnet Releasing. We have yet to here about a DVD or theatrical release, but regardless, I'm excited.
