Star Trek Writers Taking Inspiration From The Dark Knight

Although many would not pin it at first glance, there is quiet a bit in common between Batman Begins and the newest Star Trek reboot directed by JJ Abrams. Both are widely sucessful attempts at rebooting franchises that had previously gone stale, and lost their touch with a modern generation. These similarities have been noted by the people who made the 2009 Star Trek possible.
According to reports and interviews conducted by E! with executive producers Bryan Burk and Damon Lindelof, the creators have been looking at what made the Dark Knight such a success for their attempt at a sequel. Lindelof mentions that The Dark Knight managed to expand upon the sucess of Batman Begins but at the same time making it more emotional and thematic. Star Trek 2 is also planned to be an even bigger film then the first.
Star Trek 2 will be released June 29, 2012.

Shooting Schedule Announced for Star Trek Sequel

Conflicting reports have been released today for the shooting schedule on the upcoming sequel to JJ Abram's 2009 Star Trek reboot.
Hollywood.com announced today that they had heard from actor Bruce Greenwood, who played Captain Pike in the 2009 blockbuster, that shooting would begin in January of 2011. However, the authenticity of this announcement was questioned seeing as Greenwood did not know if he was involved with the project or not.
Later, Trekmovie.com released a conflicting report from producer Bryan Burk that shooting would in fact begin in Spring or Summer of next year.
Star Trek 2 is due for release June 29, 2012

Around the Web: 6-28-10
Here we are everybody. It's Monday again, and it's been a rather eventful week here on the site. Between a flood of new posts and our new podcast site (which should have a new episode released soon), us here at Artificial Continuum have been really busy. However, I wouldn't forget about you little people. This week we possibly have the weirdest combination of videos so far.
1. Guy Catches Laptops with his butt
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Very self explanatory. Honestly, I don't really have that much to say about this. Just that I wish I had butt clenching skills of this magnitude. You know, even if this video is fake, which some claim it to be, it still gets points for being a bizarre ass video. Wow. That's an awful pun.
2. Classic Viral: Drunk Orson Welles
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Orson Welles is a really sophisticated guy right? Right? Oh, nevermind.
3. Star Trek: Tik Tok
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Ke$ha sucks. I'm not going to lie. She sucks. Her songs are awful, and I find preteen girls listening to her music bizarrely disturbing and wrong. However, there is some kind of bizarre magic behind this Star Trek video mash up to her song "Tik Tok". If you are even a moderate fan of the series, then this should be right up your alley.

Batman Takes on Godzilla, The Avengers, Spider-man, Underwater Aliens, and Captain Kirk

2012 is shaping up to be the most crowded and chaotic summer in recent memory. Warner Bros. announced today that the sequel to the award winning The Dark Knight will premiere July 20, 2012, just several weeks after the controversial Spider-man reboot enters the fray. Batman will have his work cut out for him. The summer of 2012 is filled with big budget special effects movies that will certainly eat away at a potential audience. Batman faces opposition from the board game adaptation Battleship (May 25), Star Trek 2 (June 29), The Avengers (May 4), and the tentatively scheduled Godzilla reboot. One things for sure, 2012 will end the world with a cinematic bang.

Star Trek 2, June 29th 2012

Well, looks like Star Trek 2 will be out in two years, as announced today by Paramount Pictures. Personally I'm rather excited, the first film was enjoyable and one of my personal favorite movies of 2009. No news has been released other then the release date, but it has been confirmed that the writers and cast of the original film will be returning for the sequel.

Nimoy May Not Return for Star Trek Sequel

This summer JJ Abram's Star Trek made waves throughout the film community making both financial and critical success. A sequel was announced later last summer, to no surprise from the public. The film has already begun the writing process with Robert Orci and Alex Kurtzman, and JJ Abrams has expressed interest in returning. However, one major component from the original film may not return, Leonard Nimoy. Nimoy, who played Spock in the original Star Trek series, reprised his role in the new film to help bridge two generations of fans and crews. His role, which was tied heavily to the films time travel driven plot, was a central part of the film. However, Nemoy doesn't feel that he will be needed in the new installment. Nimoy said the following in a recent interview:"My understanding is they're working on a script right now. I expect there's going to be some time before they really know exactly who they need and what they need. I frankly, frankly doubt that I will be called upon again. I think I was useful in his last film to help bridge between the original characters, the original actors, and the new cast. They have a wonderful new cast in place, and I'm sure they'll move ahead with them. I don't see, at the moment, why they would need me in the next film, although, if they called me, I'd be happy to have a conversation about it."

Writers Leave Transformers Saga

Last week, director Michael Bay (Transformers, Armageddon) announced that work on the third Transformers movie had reached the planning phase, and that release was to be penned for summer of 2011. The move comes as no surprise seeing as Transformers, and its sequel Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen were both huge financial successes (the critical end is another story). However, two contributors to the series will not be returning for the third outing, writers Robert Orci and Alex Kurtzman. The writers, known for their work on J.J. Abram's Star Trek and Fringe, announced today that they will not be returning for the third installment. One might argue that this might be one of the best moves of their career seeing how panned the second installment was. In fact, it is hard at times to believe that the same people who write the complex and moving stories of Fringe and Star Trek are responsible for the same drivel that is the Transformers saga.
