It is no secret that James Cameron's Avatar was a success. Whether you liked it or hated it, Avatar is now part of nerd culture. The film grossed $2.718 billion worldwide, and has broken records for DVD sales. Naturally, 20th Century Fox wants a sequel, and luckily for them Cameron has one planned.

Cameron announced today that a release date for the next Avatar film will be announced within the next several months, and that he suspects that it will take about three years to produce. Earlier, when pressed about ideas for an Avatar sequel, Cameron stated that he would be interested in focusing on Pandora's oceans and coastal world. Will the plot resemble the Little Mermaid this time around? Only time will tell.
