There are few science fiction franchises as treasured as Alien. Although its more recent outings have not reached the quality of the series original two entries, Alien still has a rabid fanbase and millions of supporters worldwide.

Which is why when Ridley Scott, the director of the original Alien, announced that he planned to release a prequel to the original film, fans were noticeably excited. While the project seemed dormant for months, yesterday news reached Deadline that Lost writer Damon Lindelof will be writing the final draft of the script. Lindelof mentioned numerous times that he is very enthusiastic about working on the project, and that the original Alien was one of his inspirations.

Interestingly, reports say that talks between Scott and Lindelof have been full of energy and may have actually deviated from the original plans for the film. It is entirely possible that the two may continue their work into an entirely original science fiction project.
